So make sure you're there to enjoy gardening at its most gorgeous and glamorous.

The Dorothy Clive Garden

The Dorothy Clive Garden is delightfully woven into the magnificent tapestry of the Shropshire, North Staffordshire and Cheshire borders and has spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.

It is both formal and informal hosting a network of paths that invite the visitor to explore and discover the intimacy and tranquillity of the garden.

There are a variety of landscape features including a woodland garden and waterfall - displaying a large collection of rhododendrons and azaleas - a hillside alpine scree and pool, a 30m long laburnum arch, a summer flowering rose walk, vibrant seasonal borders, a new edible woodland in 2013 and a diverse collection of unusual plants, shrubs, trees including magnolias and camellias. The garden was created in the 1940s by Colonel Harry Clive for the enjoyment and pleasure of his wife Dorothy. Originally a disused gravel quarry, the garden was transformed by Clive into a woodland garden for Dorothy who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Colonel Clive’s ambition was to create a beautiful and fascinating garden where his ailing wife Dorothy could enjoy her daily walks.

The garden subsequently became the focus of Colonel Harry Clive’s life. In 1958 it was set up as a charitable garden trust with the objectives of maintaining, enhancing and developing a garden inspired by the memory of the late Dorothy Clive - to be used for the enjoyment and benefit of the public.
