Darlington

Darlington town centre is a blend of the old and the new, with many independent shops complementing well-know high street retailers.

Darlington has an excellent reputation as a  market town. An open market is held twice a week. The Summer Spectacular and Christingle Markets are huge events, with entertainment, arts and craft stalls and a wide range of food stalls. The covered market is open Monday to Saturday, all year.

Durham Christmas Market

Durham's award-winning Traditional Christmas Festival will return from Friday 29th November 2019 for three days, with a wide range of festive entertainment and excellent Christmas shopping opportunities for all the family in and around the World Heritage Site of the Cathedral and the Castle and throughout the City Centre. 

The hugely successful Craft & Gift Marquee on Palace Green features over 180 stalls selling a wide variety of gifts, perfect for Christmas presents.

Locally sourced, high-quality food and drink is on offer from over 30 producers in the atmospheric surroundings of the Cathedral Cloisters and the Market Hall is open on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November from 9am till 5.30pm, and on Sunday 1st December from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The perfect place to warm up, grab a coffee and a bite to eat and browse over 50 varied stalls by quality local independent retailers.

 

Beamish

Be enchanted by Christmas at Beamish. Discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas as you join in the celebrations at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village and 1940s Farm. Visit Father Christmas and his magnificent reindeer and enjoy our Winter Fun Fair. Find some charming and quirky gifts at our outdoor bazaar in The Town park, take home some traditional trinkets, pretty presents and local festive food.

There will be traditional entertainment and a real outdoor ice rink in the Pit Village. It's how every Christmas ought to be!

Friday 29th Nov

We leave Cumbria in the morning and head to Richmond for coffee before spending the afternoon in Darlington wih its range of independent, stylish shops alongside high street favourites and the Victorian Market Hall. We stay for two nightsat the Mercure Kings Hotel Darlington. Dinner in the hotel.

Saturday 30th Nov

Full day visit to the award winning Durham Christmas Festival, set in and around the world heritage site of the cathedral and the castle. Over 160 stalls offer you the chance to find that 'something different' for Christmas. Entertainment takes place throughout the city. We return to Darlington for dinner.

Sunday 1st Dec

We leave our hosts at the Kings Hotel and travel to the Beamish Open Air Museum, here we discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas as you join in th celebrations at 1820's Pockerley Old Hall, 1900's Town, 1900's Pit Village and 1940's Farm. We return to Cumbria late afternoon.
