Bellinzona

Bellinzona is the capital city of southern Switzerland’s Ticino canton. It’s known for its 3 medieval castles, including the hilltop Castelgrande and Sasso Corbaro. Both have views of the city, the surrounding Alps and Montebello, the 3rd castle. The town lies east of the Ticino river, at the foot of the Alps. It stretches along the river valley, surrounded by the southern ranges of the Lepontine Alps to the east and west, and by the Lugano Prealps to the south.

Locarno

Locarno is an Italian-speaking resort city in southern Switzerland, on Lake Maggiore at the base of the Alps. It's known for its sunny climate. Founded in the 12th century, the old town's Castello Visconteo houses the Museo Civico, which showcases Roman antiquities

Locarno–Madonna del Sasso funicular, or Funicolare Locarno–Madonna del Sasso (FLMS) is the funicular railway in Locarno. The line links a lower station in the city center with the pilgrimage site of the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso and the municipality of Orselina. It forms part of the route to the summit of nearby Cimetta mountain. At Orselina there is a connection with the cable car to Cardada, which in turn connects with a chairlift to the summit of Cimetta.

Lugano

Lugano is a city in southern Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Ticino region. Its Swiss-Mediterranean mix of cultures is closely related to that of Italy’s northern Lombardy region. This mix is reflected in its architecture and cuisine. The city stands on the northern shore of glacial Lake Lugano, surrounded by mountains. Its main square, Piazza della Riforma, is ringed with pastel-colored, neoclassical palazzi.

Stresa

Stresa is a picturesque town on Lake Maggiore, in a nice setting. It looks right out at the lake's Borromean Islands and is one of the area's more important tourist towns because it is on the rail and ferry lines. There are abundant flora to enjoy, from olive groves to lemon trees and bay hedges, along with camelia, azelia and magnolia blooms. There are pretty streets lined up along the lake with nice shops and boutiques as well as cool cafes and restaurants. The water front promenade offers excellent views of the surrounding the mountains and the islands in the lake. When the Duchess of Genova bought the Ducal Palace Hotel, other famous travelers followed, like Rockefeller, Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, George Bernard Shaw and Hemingway. Stresa became known as a spa center.

The Centovalli Railway

The Centovalli Railway, reached by a local train from Stresa to Domodossola, is the most attractive route between Lake Maggiore, the French part of Switzerland and the Swiss capital, Bern. Thanks to the marvellous scenery of the Centovalli and the Valle Vigezzo in which is operates, it serves not only transit traffic but also tourism. The landscape is further enriched by the wealth of tourist facilities in Locarno - located in the Italian part of Switzerland to the south of the Alps and on the south side of Lake Maggiore.
