The town of Matlock is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park. A former spa town lying alongside the River Derwent, Matlock is the historic County town of Derbyshire. The popular tourist resort of Matlock Bath is a short distance away following the course of the river valley which is renowned for its industrial heritage sites. The town remains home to Derbyshire County Council's offices but is also a vibrant centre for shopping and tourism enjoying good transportation links to both north and south.



Lincoln is a vibrant city with plenty to offer to both residents and visitors. Why not visit the bustling High Street and Central Market, or make your way up our famous Steep Hill to discover our independent traders and the old world charm of the Bailgate.

If you're interested in arts and culture there is plenty to be seen in hidden in our historic streets, including Roman ruins, our wonderful castle, the Magna Carta and plenty of museums and attractions for all ages. 

Lincoln Cathedral, one of Europe's finest medieval buildings dominating the Lincolnshire skyline, Lincoln Castle dating from 1068 the castle is home to the Magna Carta & Charter of the Forest and the Medieval Bishops' Palace, an English Heritage site with a visitor centre and contemporary heritage garden are all located in the beautiful Cathedral Quarter of the city.

The castle hosts an exciting events programme and offers free guided tours. These provide a fascinating insight into the history of Lincoln and its castle.

The castle is home to the Lincoln Magna Carta, dating back to 1215, as well as the Charter of the Forest. Lincoln Castle is the only place where you can see the two documents together in the world!

Monday 3rd Sept

A morning departure from Cumbria as we travel via the A66 to Richmond for coffee, from here we continue to Leeds with time for lunch before continuing on to Thoresby Hall, time to explore some of the 50 acres of landscaped gardens before tonight's dinner. Wide choice of entertainment after dinner.


Tuesday 4th Sept

Relax at the hotel today or join us on our excursion travelling through Sherwood Forest on our way to Matlock Spa on the edge of the Peak District. We return to Thoresby Hall for dinner and entertainment.

Wednesday 5th Sept

Day at leisure, spend time in the hotel leisure facilities or take part in one of the many organised activities on offer at Thoresby Hall. Dinner in the restaurant is followed by entertainment in the Pavilion Cabaret Room.

Thursday 6th Sept

Today we travel to the historic city of Lincoln, take time to visit the castle or the cathedral or simply wander the cobbled streets and explore the quaint shops and alleyways. Alternatively you could spend the day using the excellent facilities at Thoresby Hall. Dinner and entertainment tonight.

Friday 7th Sept

Following a leisurely breakfast we leave our hosts at Warner's Thoresby Hall and return home to Cumbria, stopping off en-route in Harrogate for lunch. We are due home late afternoon.
